On the first of November 2013, nine divers from K.P. Pletwal took the initiative and met at the tank bridge to take part in the “I Mazurian Night Mile”. The idea of the meeting was obvious. We combined the tradition of All Souls’ Day, the popular Halloween and our passion – diving.

Each person came with a pumpkin mounted on a polystyrene platform, hollowed out and lit from the inside. We decided to sail the distance of the Łuczański Canal dragging our masterpieces behind us. In this rather extravagant way we decided to commemorate those who are no longer with us, but who meant a lot to us. To put it simply, the 1st MMN was held with Krzysiek May and Andrzej “Balon” Tarasiewicz in mind.

We set off at 6.30 p.m. The plan was simple: to swim the distance using a compass or natural navigation, to reminisce about those who are no longer with us and to give joy to those who observed this unusual phenomenon.

Some of the team started like “from a shoe” and without any problems went to the destination, but it was not without turbulence. Czarek Śmiarowski extended the distance and several times, with a maniac’s stubbornness, returned to the bridges he had already passed. Fortunately, a patient shepherd – “The Bear” – did not allow the stray sheep to wander along the Swan Route and guided it to its destination.

After the event Czarek said that he was interested in the underwater construction of bridge pillars, that he couldn’t part with them (the pillars), that he already knows what passion is, that there is a lot to improve and that he found his purpose in life…

Daniel Winiarz, on the other hand, was so excited by the story about the mermaid Arielka that he decided to impersonate her and swim the distance with a “dolphin”. Despite his efforts, his instinct did not allow him to do the mermaid’s footwork. This was too much. Desperate, he tangled his legs with the line from the reel so that actually nothing else (except for the underwater dolphin) was left for him.

Unfortunately you can’t cheat nature… After “blowing” about 250m, he had to ask for mercy from “Bear” and after untangling he returned to his natural, beloved and only right frog.

In the first edition of the “Mazurian Mile by Night”: Czarek Śmiarowski, Patryk Weryk, Marcin Mierunowicz, Marek Czarniecki, Michał Warchoł, Daniel Winiarz, Krzysztof Golubiński, Adam Sobański and Sebastian Łepkowski took part. Assisted and helped as much as he could from the surface by Tomasz “Niedźwiedź” Niedźwiedzki.

Howk!
