The third edition of Diving Talks won’t take place until October, but today we’re already introducing you to another of the speakers, which is Gareth Lock!

Gareth Lock is the owner and founder of The Human Diver organization. He established it to provide divers with the proper knowledge, experience, and practice of human factors from high-risk domains and academia in the sport of diving.

Gareth Lock also wrote and published Under Pressure: Diving Deeper with Human Factors. It is the only textbook dedicated to this topic. In turn, in May 2019, he released the film “If Only…,” which looks at a fatal diving accident through the lens of human factors and Just Culture.

Over the last 3 years, he has also led two reviews of fatal military diving accidents on behalf of Defence departments, applying systems thinking and human factors.

Recognizing that the need for Human Factors is greater than one person can provide, Gareth Lock has also trained ten instructors to help spread the Human Diver content further around the world. He is also working with two training agencies to incorporate Human Factors concepts and tools into instructor training and diver training materials.

The Human Diver website, contains all the information you need to know about Human Factors in diving and related training materials.
