Two people were involved in the incident and the dive itself was conducted outside the recreational limit. The aim of the dive was to reach a depth of 60 m. According to nowepomorze.pl, at a depth of 55 m, one of the victims probably suffered an equipment failure.
As a result, an emergency ascent had to be carried out, which for the 44-year-old man resulted in a heart attack. His 52-year-old partner towed his friend to the shore in Wdzydze Tucholskie and resuscitated him. Rescue services were also immediately called to the scene.
The older man was transported by LPR helicopter to a decompression chamber in Gdynia, while the 44-year-old’s life was fought for on the spot. After cardiopulmonary resuscitation which lasted for about 40 minutes, the rescuers managed to restore vital functions, and the man regained consciousness and was transported to hospital in a serious condition. Unfortunately, in the end his life could not be saved.
The details of the whole incident will be investigated by the prosecution.
