At the Suunto Vertical Blue freediving competition held in the Bahamas, the competitors managed to set two new world records! As you can see Dean’s Blue Hole, which is one of the favourite locations for freedivers, once again allowed the competitors to achieve impressive results.
The new world record holders were Russian Alexey Molchanov, son of the sport’s legend and undisputed multi-record holder Natalia Molchanovey, and American Ashley Futral Chapman.
In the Constant Weight category, Alexey improved his own record, set in Sharm El Sheik in July this year, by 1m and set the bar at a depth of 126m. Ashley, on the other hand, in the Constant Weight No Fins competition, reached a depth of 67m.
Interestingly, with her attempt, the American beat by 1m the record held by the tsarina of freediving, Natalia Molchanovey, which she set in May this year.
56 athletes from 21 countries took part in the competition. In addition to 2 world records, 65 national records were also set during the competition!
