Theft of photographic kit by… a shark! – video

That’s right, don’t rub your eyes, the title says it all. While diving, a tiger shark decided to get rich with a decent underwater photography kit worth $10000! The diver showed reflexes, courage and commitment to his camera and decided to heroically defend his right to property, regardless of the consequences. Unfortunately, as a result he had to acknowledge the superiority of the predator from the depths.

Considering the shark’s behaviour, we must admit that his speed and technique could be the envy of all big city thieves stealing purses, etc. Despite encountering resistance, the perpetrator managed to snatch the camera from the diver’s hand with a few jerks and fled the scene.

Unfortunately, it happens so often in the life of a photographer dealing with wildlife. In pursuit of a great frame, many of them can venture too deep into unknown terrain and dangerously close the distance between the lens and the local attractions. Such a situation is a textbook example of becoming a victim of local thieves.

It was no different in this case, which occurred in the Bahamas. Diver-photographer Jim Abernethy, in a fight for a great photo, fell victim to a tiger shark, which decided to rob him of what he had most precious. Right after his own life, of course.

Despite trying to free the camera from the predator’s mouth, the man had to acknowledge the superiority of the ruler of the deep and return home empty-handed and with the memory of a tiger shark moving away in the murky water with the camera in its mouth.

The entire event was recorded by a second diver, who had more luck and did not lose his valuable equipment. When he returned home, he was able to post a recording of the entire situation on the popular YouTube website.

By the way, I wonder if, in the course of time, someone will manage to find and recover the camera? After all, similar cases have already taken place. What was recorded on it could be interesting material.
