Scientific Dive Courses in Finland

Opportunities for all levels of training for scientific diving are available now at the Finnish Scientific Diving Academy at the University of Helsinki. The range of options exists to suit every level from interested divers to professional occupational training with a specialization in modern protocols and cold water techniques. The basic introduction courses cover an array of scientific techniques used underwater, suitable for joining citizen science projects or introducing marine science students to field skills they may find interesting for future careers.

For in-depth training for professional work in the field, the Occupational Scientific Diver is a good option, an intensive six-week program, meets the standards for an Advanced European Scientific Diver. During that time participants get training in everything from different techniques to gather data, both biological and archeological, driving boats, full face masks, and communications to overall planning and management for diving operations as supervisor.

Even more advanced divers using rebreathers there is the CCR Scientific Diver program aimed to train research divers in working on and running operations using this technology, the differences in risk management and protocols.

The location of the FSDA in the Tvärminne Zoological Station, located on the shores of the Baltic Sea with everything on-site form accommodation to a dive shed and boat jetty right there makes it an excellent environment for participants to focus directly on their courses.

All the course dates are available on the Finnish Scientific Diving Academy webpage with more details on the programs. Check available dates and program
