joomplu:363In search of another interesting place to dive, we find ourselves in Piechcin. Located near Bydgoszcz, this quarry is a waterlogged limestone excavation. The first thing that distinguishes this dive site from others is the unique for Poland azure colour of the water. In combination with the surrounding white limestone walls and clear water, it creates a combination straight from the distant warm seas.

The dive site is suitable for larger groups, regardless of their level of experience. The parking area and the descent to the water are located on the south-western side of the reservoir. The slope is gentle enough to drive right up to the water, where all the equipment can be easily assembled. We can take the whole family on this trip, because the place is really very nice and after a successful dive it is nice to relax and have a barbecue by the blue water.

The maximum depth is 24m, while visibility varies, depending on weather and season, between 8-15m. The SeaExplorers foundation, which manages this place, developed the bottom of the quarry in an interesting way and so, apart from the clear blue water, we can find here the wreck of a sea yacht “Magda M”, a wooden sailing boat, two sunken Fiat 126p, as well as a mirror, a platform or a gas tank and a scrap yard. In addition, in the limestone walls we can find holes/caves (about 3m). In shallower places we can also find vegetation and sizable trees, as well as the inhabitants of this body of water, such as pike and perch.

joomplu:361Piechciński quarry is certainly a unique place, worth visiting. Unfortunately, the disadvantage here is the lack of possibility to refill gas in the vicinity of the reservoir. If there is a reasonable distance between you and the quarry, you can equip yourself with two cylinders for a diver and explore the place in peace, or if the distance is long, you can visit it during an outing.
