On the occasion of his 50th birthday, American film star Will Smith decided to make a “bucket list” of things to do before he dies. Among the items he listed was diving with sharks.

While filming one of the movies, Smith met Paul De Gelder, a former Australian Army paratrooper and diver who was attacked by a bullshark in 2009 during anti-terrorism training, and Cristina Zenato, a shark behaviourist who, among other things, removes hooks and other fishing gear from their mouths during her dives. It was thanks to them that Big Will began to consider diving with sharks.

To achieve his goal, Will Smith teamed up with Stuart Cove’s Dive Bahamas, where he took the PADI Discover Scuba course and learned more about sharks and the role they play in the global ecosystem.
