DAN Europe: no more plastic certificates
Listen to this article

Divers Alert Network Europe has announced that it is moving away from using plastic certificates and switching entirely to digital versions. All with a view to being more environmentally friendly.

From this port, DAN Europe members will no longer receive a plastic membership card or certificate, instead they will be able to access the digital version via the My DAN section of the DAN website or via the new DAN Europe app.

The diving community and the DAN Europe team share a love of the ocean and environmental protection. PVC is the most commonly used plastic for card production. When thrown away, it breaks down into smaller pieces that can enter our oceans and eventually be consumed by marine organisms and enter the food chain. When it comes to our environment, every little bit counts, and replacing membership cards and certificates with PVC with something that has a low environmental impact will help a lot, explained Laura Marroni, Vice President of DAN Europe

So after some diver training and certification organisations, also DAN Europe decided to abandon the physical material and go for the digital variant. I think this is a move in the right direction, as probably every diver over time has become the owner of an ever growing collection of plastic cards, which in most cases were never needed for anything.
