During the 10th edition of Vertical Blue, an extremely prestigious freediving competition held in the Bahamas, Alexei Molchanov set a new world record in the constant weight competition – CWT. The Russian was unrivalled, diving to a depth of 130 metres with a time of 3 min 55 sec.

Thus, the son of the legendary Natalia Molchanova, improved by one metre his own world record, which he set in 2017, also during the Vertical Blue competition. In the fixed-ballast competition, Alexei has been out of the competition for several years, standing out from his most dangerous rivals by several metres.

No one was particularly surprised by the young Russian’s result. Apart from the fact that he has only been improving his results in the CWT competition for a few years now, it was not the first time he reached the depth of 130 metres. Before that, however, there were training sessions and events where the result could not be classified as the official best result in the world. The new record was set in accordance with the requirements of AIDA International.

All that remains to complete all the formalities is an anti-doping control, conducted by the international organisation WADA. After passing the tests, the result will be officially announced as the new world record.

Vertica Blue, is the most prestigious freediver competition in the world. Competing in Dean’s Blue Hole in the Bahamas is a dream for freedivers from all over the world. Many world and national records are broken during the competition and the best freedivers from around the world compete against each other. The VB event is also top of the world in terms of funding and sponsorship.
