It has happened! Yesterday – 18 September 2014 – the existing Guinness record for the deepest open circuit dive was broken. Ahmed Gabr, about whom we have written many times reporting on his preparations, pushed the limit from a depth of 318.25m (Nuno Gomes’ record from 2005) to a depth of 332.35!

Yesterday’s descent by an Egyptian diver in Dahab was a complete success. Although the planned depth of 350m was not reached, the result is still amazing. The result of the South African representative from 2005 was improved by almost 15m! One must remember that at such colossal depth every metre is worth its weight in gold.

The 41-year-old underwent long and demanding training to face the biggest challenge of his diving career. During the record-breaking dive, he used more than 60 cylinders of breathing mixture and was exposed to pressures of almost 35 atmospheres (35kg per 1cm² of body)!

We still don’t have a lot of detailed information at the moment, but once the excitement has subsided a little more details will certainly emerge, which we will keep you updated on. The most important thing is that the record has been confirmed by Guinness and Ahmed is on the surface safe and sound.

It is worth mentioning that during the record-breaking dive, there was a Polish accent in the form of equipment used by Ahmed. We are talking about the Xdeep Black computer and Stealth 2.0 harness from the same manufacturer.
