Maritime and river museum conferences are held every two years in various cities in Poland and have permanently grown into the calendar of scientific meetings dedicated to this environment. In 2016, the venue of the conference will be Chojnice and the surroundings of the nearby Charzykowskie Lake.

The choice of venue is not accidental: in the interwar period Charzykowskie Lake, one of the largest Polish lakes, and Chojnice became the cradle of Polish sailing. Taking this fact into account, the conference organisers are planning to make lake and sailing subjects the main theme of the conference.

Other topics that may also be addressed in the papers are the achievements of museums and their intentions in the field of nautological themes, new permanent and temporary exhibitions, research works, publications, conservation, educational programmes, international projects, raising external funds. The organisers also hope to present the achievements of non-museum institutions and social organisations in creating conditions for the protection of waterside cultural heritage.

The meeting in Chojnice is also intended to be an opportunity to deepen direct cooperation between museums and other institutions in the field of protecting riverside, lake and maritime cultural and technical heritage.

Conference date: 12-13 May 2016.
Place of the Conference: Charzykowy – Chojnicki Sailing Club

Applications: Applications for participation and proposals for presentations with an abstract of up to 1 page of text (papers up to 20 minutes, communications up to 10 minutes) should be received by 31 January 2016.

The participants of the Conference, apart from taking part in the deliberations, will also have an opportunity to get to know the new exhibitions of the J. Rydzkowski Historical and Ethnographic Museum in Chojnice, e.g: Doctors, Hunters and Collectors. Pomeranian Lukowicz Family; Material Culture of Kashubia; Otton Weiland (1887-1966). One of the five great sailors. The meeting will also provide an opportunity to learn about local sailing traditions.

  • The first day of the Conference – at the headquarters of the Chojnice Sailing Club in Charzyki – will be devoted to the presentation of speeches, and will end with participation in the festive inauguration of the sailing season on Lake Charzykowskie and a social gathering.
  • Day 2 – visit to the Museum in Chojnice, drive to Charzyki, continuation of the presentation of papers and sailing reconnaissance on Charzykowskie Lake.
