From the information Humphryeys gave, it appears that the wreck is about 40mil off the coastline, in international waters, and that some gold coins have already been brought to the surface.

“After a preliminary exploration, we have been able to obtain positive results. We expect a valuable cargo of gold coins and artifacts, pre-Civil War,” – said Hank Hudson, vice president of Marex Global – a deep sea mining company.

According to information in the possession of Marex Global, several congressmen and very well-off passengers were on board the ship, explaining the abundance of cargo resting on the bottom.

The wreck has been provisionally named SS Caribe, but the real name of the ship is known. As Herbert Humphreys announced, it will be revealed once the excavation operations are complete.

Tim Hudson of Marex Global, believes the depth at which the wreck rests is ideal for this type of operation. The wooden-hulled steamer, is scattered over an area of about 600m, at an average depth of about 30m.

“We have assembled a very strong team to do the exploration and mining. We will begin work as soon as weather conditions permit,” Hudson reported.
