What awaits us at Baltictech 2017? – Medical aspects of diving

The Baltictech 2017 conference is fast approaching and the excitement is growing. What exactly will be waiting for us at the thresholds of the Science and Technology Park in Gdynia on the weekend of 25-26 November? This question arises repeatedly, so we decided to prepare an answer to it. We hope that our mini-cycle presenting the invited speakers and the topics they discuss will help you plan your time at the conference better and more efficiently!

For all those who believe (rightly!) that safe and healthy diving is essential. At Baltictech 2017 we will meet world authorities in diving medicine and diving physiology.

Pasquale Longobardi is a diving medical consultant for the following contractors: CNS, Avenza – Carrara, Impresub Diving Marine Contractor, Lucatelli srl, Marine Consulting, Micoperi srl, RANA Diving and Marine Contractor.

His professional experience places him among the authorities in Italian underwater and hyperbaric medicine.

He is co-founder of the Historical Diving Association in Italy and a versatile instructor, including at the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (C.M.A.S.), first aid instructor-trainer at DAN, Aquatek SCR 1 (semi-closed circuit oxygen equipment – level 1) and more.

He has won several awards (including the Tridente d’oro 2009 for his high level of professionalism) and authored numerous publications in the field of hyperbaric and underwater medicine. His research has contributed to the regulation of safety and accident prevention during both technical and recreational diving.

At Baltictech 2017 he will give a talk on: “Lifestyle and technical diving. Good looks, better diving”

Prof. Costantino Balestra is director of the Laboratory of Integrative Physiology and professor at Haute Ecole Bruxelles-Brabant (Brussels).

He acts as Vice President of DAN Europe for Research and Education and in the recent past was President of the European Underwater and Baromedical Society (EUBS).

Prof. Balestra started his career as a researcher working on the neurophysiology of fatigue, then became interested in issues in diving physiology.

Author of over 150 scientific publications, including co-author of three books on diving medicine. He teaches diving pathophysiology at international courses and at the Scuola Superiore Sant’ Anna in Pisa.

He is a member of the editorial board of a scientific physiology journal, the European Journal of Applied Physiology, and a reviewer for several other leading European journals.

At Baltictech 2017, he will talk about diving physiology and new discoveries in this field.
