The Polish Foreign Ministry has advised against travel to the country since Sunday. “We advise against travel to Egypt. We are dealing with a growing wave of robberies in the country. As recently as Friday there were not many of them.” – Marcin Bosacki, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, said.
“The situation in the country and tourist resorts has changed. Problems with supplies have started, people are buying up drinks, food from shops. Shopkeepers are refusing to serve customers from abroad,” Bosacki said.

Also from Sunday, Polish travel agencies such as Exim Tour Poland, TUI Poland and Triada, started to cancel trips to Egypt that were supposed to take place this week. Polish companies are evacuating their employees. Many countries have decided to evacuate their citizens. The United States, China and Japan, among others, have done so.

Polish Airlines will also send a larger plane than usual to Cairo on Tuesday to enable the return of as many Poles as possible. Instead of an Embraer 170, there will be a Boeing 737-400. Should the situation deteriorate further, the Polish government is preparing emergency evacuation plans, even including the use of military transport aircraft.

Unfortunately, divers who planned to spend at least some winter in a warmer climate, are forced to change their plans. It is not known how the situation in Egypt will change and what effect it will have on diving in this country.

More than 100 people have so far been killed in the riots.
