“Time for depth” – pre-sale launched

We are very pleased to announce the beginning of pre-sale of the book written by Mateusz Piechnik “Czas na głębokości – historia i rozwój watchów do diving”. A sample of what you will find inside was published in the 7th issue of DIVERS24 Magazine, in the article ‘Dive computers. From prehistory to the present day”.

The publication itself is a popular scientific study describing the history and processes that led first to the creation and then to the further evolution of dive watches. The subject matter, contained in 6 chronologically arranged chapters, covers a period of almost 170 years from the mid-19th century to 2018. The content is supplemented by additional information tables and over 200 photographs, illustrations and plans.

It is not only the history of watches and manufacturers, but also of the people who created it: scientists, explorers, pioneers of underwater research, inventors and, of course, divers. “Czas na głębokości” is the first publication in the Polish language that deals with the subject of diving watches. In this respect, it is a pioneering work.

Information from the author:

“Time in the Depths – The History and Development of Dive Watches” is an undertaking that requires a few words of explanation. The idea to write this book was born in the autumn of 2017. The dust had just settled after the successful watch festival in Lodz, which I co-organised. The event itself and everything that was happening around it slowly started to make me realise how little has been written about watches in Poland in recent years. Of course, there are a few watch magazines, several thematic portals and articles. These are definitely positive activities, but the form of articles rarely allows for a thorough investigation of larger issues.

While working on a series of articles for a newspaper, I realised that over the years I had accumulated a large knowledge base in the form of photographs, studies, documents and plans. Most of this information concerned waterproof and diving watches, of which I am a declared enthusiast. The earlier studies together gave a picture of certain processes that had taken place in this field since the middle of the 19th century. It was then that I decided to systematise my knowledge and to compile it in a book.

I feel that the Polish collectors’ community deserves access to knowledge in its own language. Currently, many topics are only available to readers in English and German. There is a lack of compendia of knowledge and popular science thematic studies. From valuable realisations it is worth mentioning the work “Wieżowe Zegary Wolsztyna i okolic” by aut. Michał Olejniczak from 2017. Michal’s company “Time at height” was the inspiration for the title of my book. From this place I would like to express my great thanks to my colleague for permission to “use” his creativity in this way.

I hope that the work which will end up in your hands will be as interesting a reading adventure as its creation has been for me.

Yours sincerely
Mateusz Piechnik
