After all, who would pass indifferently, the alligator snouts, protruding from the water, above the surface of the ice! George Howard, manager of The Swamp Park, told the local media that the animals sense when the water reaches a limiting temperature and before it freezes they go into a state of torpor(brumation) with their mouths protruding above the surface.
The wave of huge frosts, which hit the USA, did not go unnoticed by the representatives of fauna. As we know, alligators are ectothermic animals, so they need a source of heat to be able to function normally. Therefore, among other things, we often meet them basking in the sun.
In these unfavourable conditions, the animals have adopted a position where their tails are pointed as far as possible towards the bottom, where the water is warmer, and their snouts are exposed above the ice, allowing them to breathe freely. In this state they can calmly survive for several days.
