This past Saturday, September 29, a 13-year-old boy was attacked by a shark while lobster fishing in the coastal waters of San Diego, California. After being taken to hospital, doctors described his condition as critical. Fortunately, after several days of hospitalisation and improvement, the victim’s condition is described as serious but stable.

The boy was attacked by a shark while diving for lobsters, in the waters off Encinitas near San Diego. He suffered serious injuries to his upper chest as a result of the incident and was immediately taken to hospital after first aid was administered on site.

At the time of the attack, there were several people in the water diving for lobsters. Saturday was the opening day of the lobster fishing season. The injured boy’s screams were heard by three bystanders in kayaks nearby, who helped to bring him ashore.

From that point on, things moved very quickly. The paramedic, who had been called, was about a quarter of a mile from the incident and just moments later a semi van with emergency equipment arrived. Moments later paramedics arrived and took the boy to hospital.

The injured teenager was conscious throughout and spoke to rescuers answering their questions.

The beach was closed for the next 48 hours, but no shark activity was found, so it reopened after two days.
