As it turns out, the effects of the work and the success of the Wisła 1655-1906-2009 Project will be immortalised in the form of a documentary film entitled “Rescued from the Flood”. The premiere of the 52-minute documentary is planned for 2014.

We already invite you to liking this production’s page and keep track of the progress of its implementation. Marcin Jamkowski, a journalist well known in the diving environment and Konstanty Kulik, a graduate of the Wielkopolska School of Radio, Television and Film in Poznan, are the directors.

Here is an extract from the description on the film project’s website:

“In the middle of the 17th century, during the so-called Swedish Deluge, the enemy army looted huge quantities of valuable artefacts from Poland, including architectural ornamental elements from the most beautiful palaces and castles. Many of them have not found their way back to Poland to this day. The invaders brought the loot from all over the country to Warsaw, where they loaded it onto river barges. However, they did not manage to transport everything. Dramatic events that took place in the capital at that time and a chaotic, hastily organised float down the Vistula caused some of the treasures to sink in the river and lie there forgotten for several hundred years.

Archaeologists are unable to find them, although the relics have not even left the borders of Warsaw. Until Dr Hubert Kowalski discovers archival records which reveal that in 1906 Warsaw sandblasters came across unusual historical ornaments during their work. Among them was a fragment of a garden fountain in the shape of a dolphin. At the time, no one bothered to search for the lost seventeenth-century treasures, but today it is valuable information – a hint that the way to the sunken monuments may be easier than originally thought.”
