Enthusiasts of classic chronometers with diving inclinations have another reason to rejoice. Two new models from Seiko dedicated for divers and being the result of cooperation with PADI will hit the market. The watches with their design and solutions refer to classic Seiko diving models from the 70s and colours associated with PADI.
The Japanese brand Seiko in the world of diving watches is already well established. Their first model designed for deep-sea enthusiasts was released in 1965. Since then they have tirelessly developed further technologies creating chronometers, which have provided them with recognition and allowed them to consolidate their position on the market.
It was Seiko who was the first watch manufacturer to create a diver’s piece made of titanium, a model with a ceramic case or the first watch computer for multi-level nitrox diving. Because of their unique features, over the course of more than 50 years many of Seiko’s diving models have become valuable treats for watch collectors.
Given the values that PADI and Seiko share together, two more models will hit the market this autumn that should generate interest in the diving world. We are talking about the PADI Special Edition Diver’s Watches.
Prospex PADI Special Edition Kinetic GMT Diver’s SUN065 uses Seiko Kinetic technology – a unique mechanism that drives the watch without the need for a battery. A special rotor uses the movements you make with the watch on your wrist to drive its mechanism. This model is also equipped with a two-tone rotating bezel, first used in 1975. Excellent workmanship and robustness are crowned by the clear numerical dial.
Prospex PADI Special Edition Automatic Diver’s SRPA21 is a kind of tribute to a diving classic from the ’70s – the Seiko 150m mechanical diver’s watch. It is characterised by a unique case and an interestingly designed dial. The watch because of its appearance has already earned the nickname “Turtle”. The whole is characterized by simplicity and minimalism through which the indications of the watch are clearly visible.
Both watches are styled and coloured in PADI’s characteristic mix of blue and red. The whole is crowned with the organisation’s logo placed in the central point of the dial, just below the hands.
The watches give the impression of a well-thought-out composition, which will certainly appeal to many people, and who knows? Maybe in the future they will become another model valued by collectors?
