The first historic award will be given for the rescue of 12 boys from a football team and their coach who were trapped in a flooded cave. The unprecedented rescue operation was followed with bated breath by the whole world at the time.
The courage, strength of character and dedication shown by the rescuers prompted PADI to create an award that would formally and ceremonially honour the contribution of the rescue divers to an unprecedented successful rescue operation.
Rick Stanton and Jason Mallinson will receive the awards on behalf of the entire dive group. The medals will be presented on 13 November, at the world’s largest dive show, the DEMA Show 2018, which will be held in Las Vegas, USA.
