Late on Saturday evening, 3 November, an accident occurred off the coast of Denmark, which resulted in the sinking of the Polish cutter “Miętus II”. There were 16 people on board the vessel. Fortunately, the quick intervention of the SAR rescue services prevented a tragedy and no one was hurt.

The incident occurred 20 kilometres off the south-west coast of the island of Bornholm. According to media reports, the 20-metre-long Polish cutter sank after colliding with another, much larger transport vessel “Begonia S.”, measuring 143 metres.

Three vessels and two helicopters took part in the rescue operation led by Danish Search And Rescue. One person was hospitalised with minor head injuries. The injured anglers and the cutter’s crew were picked up, while the Polish vessel sank at 5.00 am.

“Miętus II” offered commercial fishing cruises around the island of Bornholm, which departed from the port of Kołobrzeg.
