The Paralenz Vaquita – that’s the name given to the latest action cam – is a device based on brand new technology, new sensors, a faster processor and features a built-in OLED screen, something that users were sorely missing from the earlier Paralenz and Dive Camera+ models. Users will also undoubtedly be impressed by the 350m depth to which the new camera can be used without the need for any additional housing.
Also noteworthy is definitely the built-in GPS sensor, which will allow the user to share footage by location as a pin on the world map, available in the dedicated Paralenz app. The developers intend this feature not only to help users share their videos from specific locations, but also to contribute to building a knowledge base about the oceans.
“Our partnerships with organisations like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration – NOAA – give divers the opportunity to actually contribute to scientific research without lifting a finger. Marine life is rapidly disappearing, so we are confident that our users will appreciate the opportunity to make diving more meaningful by providing this data to organisations that know how to use it,” – said Ulrik Hvid, CEO of Paralenz
The more powerful processor implemented in the Vaquita model should translate into smoother operation, greater brightness, better colour correction and higher quality video clips created. The camera also features improved image stabilisation, as well as the ability to record in 4K quality at 60 frames per second.
An important change, which will certainly appeal to users, is the announced use of a file format that will take up less space than before, but will maintain high quality. Moreover, files will have automatic geotagging, which will allow them to be catalogued more easily. Other sensors will allow us to add information about depth, temperature or exact location to our videos.
From the information we already have we know that the camera will have a stronger wi-fi antenna and additionally Bluetooth connectivity, for even better and more efficient data transfer between the device and the application.
The name of the model is no accident. The Paralenz brand feels a duty to educate people about the underwater world, the beauty of which can be captured with cameras. Vaquita is not only a new camera model, but above all a species of small whale (the California porpoise) that is on the verge of extinction, which we have written in the past. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature – IUCN, there are only 19 individuals left alive of this species, which only inhabits the waters of the Gulf of California in Mexico.
According to the manufacturer, the Paralenz Vaquita camera will go on sale in April 2020.
