Have you ever wondered how long your diving adventure can last? Probably most divers do not even consider the possibility that age can be a limitation and the end of the underwater adventure. Martha Loats, a 90-year-old senior from Denver, USA, who decided to go underwater despite her age, is probably thinking along similar lines.
Last Thursday, Martha Loats became the oldest female diver in history. She performed her feat at the Denver Downtown Aquarium and immediately became a sensation and the biggest attraction for visitors to the facility.
After a quick training session and receiving a series of instructions, Mrs Loats jumped into the water to begin her adventure among the underwater inhabitants of the Denver Aquarium. Interestingly, this is not the first time the 90-year-old has thrown herself into adventure. She is often accompanied by other retirees from the Clermont Park Retirement Community. The heroine of our text speaks of a place that brings together older people with a taste for adventure:
“Everyone who comes here lives! We don’t come here to die. We come here to live life to the full!”
The senior’s feat did not go unnoticed by onlookers visiting the Aquarium. Simply put, Martha Loats got all the attention and became the biggest attraction at the Denver water park that day.
“I don’t understand it a bit, I just came to dive,” the heroine of the day explained afterwards
She was persuaded to dive by friends. This was shortly after Ms Loats decided to celebrate her birthday by jumping from a plane. After she had taken a liking to skydiving, diving seemed like a natural next step. In the meantime, the active senior has also tried sports such as ziplining and balloon flying.
In her own words, she wants to try everything she can in life. She explains it herself in simple terms:
“I never thought I would live to be 90. When you’re at that point, you have a completely different perspective on life and the world.”
