For every diver!

The Festival of the Deep has opened the diving year of events 2018. Now, in just two days we meet in Warsaw at the Podwodna Przygoda Diving Fair. For some of us this will probably be another meeting. The more events, conferences, festivals, the better for uniting the diving community and reaching out to landlubbers who still don’t know what they are missing.

Festival of the Deep in Ruda Śląska lasted from Friday, starting with an exhibition of photographs by Irena Stangierska ‘Colours of Silence’, moving on to swimming pool activities at the Aquadrome on Saturday, then to the Municipal Cultural Centre for a good dose of films and meetings with their protagonists, and finally ending on Sunday with competition films and final screenings.

The attendance was good and at times there were around a hundred people. The good atmosphere of the meeting attracted all the spectators and a lot of interesting questions were asked from the floor and by the excellent hosts. All of the presented titles were of great interest. What’s more, for those who have already watched e.g. “Deep Love”, this time and the meeting with the main characters reminded them how unpredictable, fragile and beautiful our lives are.

The film “Podwodni Tropiciele mystery L72”, in turn, brought us closer to the fate of the Polish ship ORP “Kujawiak” sunk during World War II and forgotten for many years. The legendary and long-awaited “Devil’s Cellars” told us how difficult cave exploration is, how much can be done according to a plan and how many unknowns await the explorers in an unknown hole.

“Cazadero” is already a story combining a demanding expedition into the high mountains with extreme dives at the altitude above 5000 m. How it all went down, how a tent is put up in a gusty wind. It is worth mentioning that Marcel Korkuś has just set off on an expedition to the highest lake and wants to dive there.

On Sunday, the time came for the competition entries. Nearly 30 films were submitted in total, but the jury made up of members of the Rudzkie Stowarzyszenie Inicjatyw Niebanalnych INNI, decided to select 9 and these were presented. Three received their places on the podium respectively: The first place went to Anna and Mateusz Rudzki for the fiI place went to Anna and Mateusz Rudzki for their film “Thailand”, the second place was taken by Michał Procajło and his “Deep Vis Reefs”, and the third place went to Bartłomiej Pitala and Aleksander Łuciuk with their production “Miltiz Mine”.

The festival ended with the presentation of “Deep Caves and the Ordine Cave” and the screening of the film “Badjao. Ghosts from the Sea”.

The organisers did very well and were up to the task. They complained a little about the attendance, but the next edition will probably fill all the seats. It is worth adding, after Marcin Adamowicz and Bartek Oczkiewicz (who were leading the event), that it was a non-commercial event, so there were no stands, equipment sales or tours. We met for the pure pleasure of immersing ourselves in the virtual depths of the world.

The whole thing can be summed up in one sentence – Let’s hope for more meetings of this type all over Poland! As Divers 24, we are always ready to provide media support and patronage for the event, helping the organisers to reach regular divers and those yet to become divers.

In two days we will see you in Warsaw on The Underwater Adventure Fairand then on 8-11 March at The “Wiatr i Woda” Fair, also in Warsaw. Both events will take place in Expo XXI halls. We invite you!
