The next edition of the conference for technical divers – Eurotek 2014 – will take place in Birmingham soon, on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 September 2014. There will be no shortage of interesting guests and interesting topics. This year’s edition will feature leading speakers from all over Europe, with a very wide range of topics.

As the organisers write on their website, Eurotek is an international event combining three elements: a trade fair, a conference and an awards dinner. As the name suggests, it is a truly European gathering of diving personalities. There will be 30 speakers and 40 equipment exhibitors waiting for the visitors! Can you expect anything more?

This year’s edition will feature speakers from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and, of course, the host country, the United Kingdom. Among the confirmed guests are Martyn Farr, Sami Paakkarinen, Leigh Bishop, Dimitri Gorski and Martin Robson, all well-known to Baltictech participants.

For me personally, the most interesting meeting promises to be with Immi Wallin and Jouni Polkko, members of the Badewanne group, which in the last 5 years has made brilliant discoveries of wrecks in the Baltic Sea.

Of course, in addition to the speakers listed by name, there are many more who are worth remembering, but it is impossible to list them all. Suffice it to mention that the organisers have divided the guests into categories, and no one who is interested in caves, wrecks, photography and filming, physiological aspects of diving, closed circuit, safety in diving or the use of the latest technology, should feel any shortage.

Eurotek was established in 2008. By three divers – Leigh Bishop, Rosemary E. Lunn and Carl Sepncer. Over the years, the event has attracted increasing numbers of guests and more interesting speakers, and has become a permanent fixture in the diving calendar. In many elements this event is similar (and has a lot of connections) to the Polish Baltictech, so those of you who did not have the opportunity to appear in Gdynia, can make up for it by going to Birmingham.
