The athlete representing our southern neighbours set a world record on the ice. 81 m was enough to beat the result of the previous record holder Stig Severinsen (76 metres). An important detail worth mentioning is the fact that in this discipline a freediver can only wear a swimming suit.
Considering the conditions that day, we can only guess that the task was not the simplest one. The negative air temperature and the water temperature of only 3°C did not make it easy to spend about 1.5 minutes under the ice.
Initially, the attempt was to take place in Austria. Diving in a glacial lake located in picturesque surroundings would have certainly added some charm to the whole feat. Unfortunately, it did not work out due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic and the whole event had to be moved to a flooded quarry in Lahost. This body of water located about 100 km north-west of Prague became the arena where the world ice record was set.
