Local media have reported an unusual find in Croatia. In the vicinity of the island of Molat located in the Adriatic Sea, the remains of a wreck of a trading vessel dating back to the 1st century BC were found. The find is said to be very well preserved and contains a lot of research material, which has already been duly protected.

According to the initial findings of the archaeologists exploring the site, the ship was probably transporting construction materials that were then used to build villas on the island.

Among other things, rows with piles of cobblestones were found on the seabed, which can still be found arranged in the way they were transported on board the ship. According to Dino Taras of the Archaeological Museum in Zadar, the whole thing is excellently preserved and will constitute important research material.

The wreck was found during a recreational dive conducted by members of a local club. It is likely that the whole thing was preserved in such fantastic condition because the place where the ship sank is situated in a calm cove protecting everything it hides from the stormy sea.

A more detailed study of the site and the materials discovered will provide new information about the ancient ship, but also about the villas and temples erected on the surrounding islands.
