As usual, there was no shortage of people willing to give a joint underwater “concert”. Crazy costumes and great fun accompanied the participants of the Underwater Music Festival. We could see a real display of creativity, both in terms of costumes and instruments used! Among them were such wonders as a flute in the shape of a barracuda, a guitar styled like a starfish or a bass resembling a stingray. All of this contributed to the positive vibrations that flowed from the sea that day.

The festival was not even hindered by the fact that after the hottest spring in 118 years, came the coldest summer in 2 decades. Organized for 27 years, the festival, in addition to good fun, carries an important message – promoting the restoration and protection of the diversity of life on the only natural reef in North America.

“We have a lot of fun here, dressing up in colourful costumes, playing and fooling around, but you can’t forget that the main idea and message is to protect coral reefs.” – Festival director Bill Becker said.

“I think the parrotfish family accepted me and took me in. We had similar colouration ,” a laughing Samantha Langsdale, dressed in a bright green mermaid costume, reported.

Most of the music was played from special underwater speakers suspended in the sea. In addition, we could hear announcements from local authorities regarding the protection of marine life on the nearby reef in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

Although another edition of this amazing Festival has come to an end, its message remains relevant all year round. It is good to know that the people of Florida have enough strength and enthusiasm to gather for almost 30 years for an annual game, which is an excuse to create awareness of tourists about what is most valuable underwater. We would like to invite everyone who likes the idea to come again next year. Florida waters are a beautiful place to dive and should remain so!
