Already on 13 February we will meet again in the hospitable walls of the Technical University of Lodz, to participate together in the VI edition of the Lodz Wreck Diving Festival. The event was planned to take place only in 2017, but the organizers, due to the available information and very interesting materials, decided to compress and present everything 12 months earlier. For today, we have another handful of information for you, regarding already known speakers and the range of topics, as well as a competition in which the prize is a VIP pass to the festival and a T-shirt!
Mark “Sharky” Alexander
American technical diver, paramedic and US Air Force veteran Mark “Sharky” Alexander has perhaps the most hours dived on the iconic transatlantic wreck Andrea Doria. During the presentation, Alexander will talk about the history of diving on this one of the most dangerous wrecks and the accidents that have occurred during exploration over the years. 2016 marks the 60th anniversary of the ship’s sinking. Mark is in the process of organising an anniversary expedition to the wreck which he will also mention in his presentation. Those interested will have the chance to join his expedition.
Leigh Bishop
Regular festival goers need no introduction to Leigh Bishop. Everyone knows that this one of the best divers and wreck photographers in the world prepares his presentations at the highest level. And this time he will not disappoint his fans. The topic of his presentation is the “Mystery of the X5” and the bravura action of three small British submarines, which set out on a mission to sink the German super battleship Tirpitz. It was the X5 that did not return from the action, and our hero will present the backstage of the search expedition in the cold Arctic waters and the story of this almost suicidal operation.
Dr Timmy Gambin
Dr Timmy Gambin is the world’s best underwater archaeologist and an expert in handling and interpreting sonar readings. With his presentation he will take us on a journey with a capital “P”! Multi-billionaire and co-owner of Microsoft Paul Allen invited our speaker on a search expedition for the wreck of the Japanese super battleship Musashi. Only at the Wreck Diving Festival will you be able to learn about the background and effects of this gigantic undertaking and the history of the largest ship of World War II, the wreck of which rests at a depth of nearly one kilometre. Dr Gambin will present photographs, film and 3D images made available by Vulcan on a one-off basis only for the festival presentation.
Competition – you can win a ticket to the festival and a T-Shirt!
As usual on such occasions, there was something extra for our readers! The festival organizers have given us one VIP pass and a bargain T-Shirt made by Kassa Group! For those who have not had the opportunity to get acquainted with this brand, we would like to inform that it is a product of the highest quality, made by divers for divers! Prizes will go to two people who correctly answer the competition question, which is:
“In what years have previous editions of the festival been held and what event crowns the official part of the event?”
Send your answers by Sunday 24 January to: tomek.andrukajtis@divers24.pl
Immediately after the festival, the organisers invite all guests to the festival cafeteria for a glass of good Rhine wine. In a relaxed atmosphere you will have the opportunity to get to know each other better and talk to our speakers.
