The Venturi effect is the reduction in fluid pressure resulting from the flow of fluid through constricted parts of the pipe.
The Venturi effect comes from Giovanni Battista Venturi (1746-1822), an Italian physicist. In diving, the venturi effect is used in the production of stage 2 rebreathers. The constriction used in the breathing apparatus can create negative pressure which facilitates the intake of air during inspiration.
