Underwater peacocks – amazing photos of young wings

The underwater world has repeatedly amazed us with its beauty and diversity. However, we still have not seen everything, even if we are talking about well-known species. In this particular case, we are talking about wings, or to be more precise, tiny wings, no bigger than a fingernail. Check out the wonderful photographs taken by Steven Kovacs!

These pictures of colourful, few-day-old fish were taken at night in the Atlantic Ocean near the coast of Florida, at the depth of about 30 metres. The tiny wingfishes are stretching and spreading their semi-transparent fins, shimmering with colours as if in a kaleidoscope.

Steven Kovacs will certainly remember his night dive in Palm Beach, Florida for a long time. After all, it’s not often that one manages to take a series of such incredible photos, which show a well-known species in a completely new, amazing version.

On the other hand, should anyone be surprised by such amazing pictures of wings? After all, adult representatives of this species are one of the most frequently photographed fish. Although dangerous and posing a threat to humans and other inhabitants of the underwater world, at the same time dignified, beautiful and majestic.

[blockquote style=”1″]”These photos are not accidental. I knew what I was looking for and realised how beautiful and phenomenal young wingfish are. When they spread their fins, you can see how they shimmer with an extraordinary palette of colours.” – said Kovacs[/blockquote].

Interestingly, some of the young winged wrens behave as if they realised they are an attractive object to be photographed! Some of them run away in panic when caught in the lamplight, but others pose in all their glory, slowly circling and allowing themselves to be photographed from all sides.
