The latest news confirms that another two divers missing in Malaysia have been found and rescued by emergency services.
A 46-year-old man from the UK and an 18-year-old woman from France are the another two divers missing in Malaysia who have been successfully rescued. Unfortunately, a 14-year-old boy from the Netherlands still remains missing. Earlier, rescuers managed to find a 35-year-old woman from Norway.
We rescued another two divers from a group of 4 who were reported missing on Wednesday. They have survived and are currently in hospital and their condition is stable. Briton Adrian Peter Chesters and Frenchwoman Alexia Alexandra Molina were found by local fishermen and intercepted by marine police – Malaysian police officer Cyril Edward Nuing said at a press conference.
Last Wednesday, four Europeans dived together at Pulau Tokong Sanggol near Mersing. The site is about 15 km from the mainland. Unfortunately, due to the strong currents here, they surfaced at a spot away from the boat. Undoubtedly, at this point the fight for survival began for all four of them.
Fortunately, as the rescued Norwegian woman reported, all four surfaced without a problem and with fully operational diving equipment. This information poured a lot of optimism into the hearts of the loved ones and the rescuers’ forecasts.
Although three of the four people have already been rescued, the youngest participant in the dive, a 14-year-old Dutchman, is still missing. The services are continuing the search and rescue operation and everyone is hopeful that the boy will be rescued soon.
Finally, a separate issue is the detention of the dive boat captain. Due to a positive drug test, police detained the man until the end of the investigation. Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the man, 20, was initially only expected to give a statement.
We carried out a urine test and found that he tested positive for drugs. Therefore, we will detain him until the investigation is completed – Mamat told reporters.
Without doubt, this is one of the larger operations of its kind in Malaysia in recent years. Hopes are high as 90 officers from various agencies are involved in the SAR operation. Among them are 30 divers, 18 boats and two helicopters. The search will cover an area with a radius of 107 nautical miles.
