Thirteen Lives is a fact-based story recounting the 2018 rescue operation that took place in the Tham Luang cave in Thailand.

During a trip to the Tham Luang cave, a group of boys from the football team and their coach become trapped inside. As a result of heavy rainfall, the water cuts off their way back in and at this point the fight for their lives begins. The worldwide cave diving community quickly became involved in helping them. The most prominent experts in the field then came to Thailand to help rescue the trapped people.

The drama Thirteen Lives, directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), brings us closer to these events. The film features real an array of stars Colin Farrell, Tom Bateman, Viggo Mortensen, Joel Edgerton, Lewis Fitz-Gerald, Vithaya Pansringarm and Paul Gleeson, among others. The filmmakers have announced a world premiere date of 29 July 2022.

Events of 2018

The Tham Luang cave rescue operation was followed with bated breath by the whole world. Fortunately, after 17 days of horror, it ended successfully. All of the 12 boys and their coach have made it to the surface safe and sound.

Diving is my passion and I’ve always wondered if it has a purpose. The last two weeks have made me realise that this is what I have been preparing for all my life said action leader John Volanthen.

A total of 90 cave diving specialists took part. The 40 local speleon divers were supported by a group of 50 divers from around the world, including Poland. Among them were British cave diving veterans Rick Stanton and John Volanthen. They were among the first to reach the stranded boys and their coach.
