It all started with the Submarine Escape Training Tank – S.E.T.T., a 28m deep Royal Navy pool. Another record holder was the Belgian Nemo33, which until recently held the palm of primacy and tempted divers from all over Europe.

This has all changed recently, with the opening of the Italian Y-40 complex. Designed with divers in mind, it has become a great attraction both for those wishing to train and explore its underwater nooks and crannies, and for all visitors who, thanks to a special route, can observe people underwater.

Unfortunately, Y-40 will soon cease to be the deepest pool in the world, as a new record holder is to be built in the British Isles. Diving into the waters of Blue Abyss, as the pool will be called, we will be able to dive to a depth of… 50 metres! This is 10m more than the current record holder and 17m deeper than Nemo33.

Blue Abyss will be built on the outskirts of London in the county of Essex. The complex is intended to become the largest training facility for recreational divers, technical divers, freedivers and professional divers in the world! Taking into account the great condition of the British diving world, as well as great transport connections in the vicinity of the English capital, there will certainly be no shortage of people willing to visit.

Interestingly, in addition to divers and lovers of underwater activities of all kinds, the pool will also be used for training purposes by the European Space Agency (ESA).

In addition to the swimming pool, the location will have parking, a hotel and all the infrastructure that visitors, coming from as far away as the world, may need.
