Described as the most valuable treasure found in the depths of the sea, the wreck codenamed Black Swan has been stripped of its cargo, which the ocean has kept secret for over 200 years.

Treasure hunters from Odyssey Marine Exploration, have finished fishing out 500,000 silver coins and gold artefacts. It will now all be cleaned and preserved, while the American company will battle the kingdom of Spain for ownership of the treasure.

Although Odyssey has obtained the right to the wreck under international maritime law, the Spanish are not giving up. The wreck has reportedly been identified as the Spanish vessel Nuestra Senora de la Mercedes.

The case is currently before the Court of Appeal and until a final determination is made, the treasure will remain in the hands of its discoverer. Meet details of the wreck of the “Black Swann”
