Achim Schloffel, an Austrian diver, intends to cover the distance between Dover and the port of Calais in one dive! In a straight line it is 34km, but taking into account the currents he will be subjected to, the diver calculated his route at 55km.
So far, all attempts by his predecessors have failed. This was mainly due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Schloffel plans to sail submerged to a depth of 20m so that sea traffic on the surface and changing weather conditions do not impede his passage.
When asked why he decided to make the journey, he says that the capabilities of the equipment used in technical diving already allow him to swim this distance in such a way, so he decided to pick up the gauntlet and take on the challenge.
The whole dive will take 12h. However, in French waters, Achim will have a decompression dive lasting 3h. In his project, he intends to use 2 Bonex Exploration Systems dive scooters. The first one with a 10-hour battery life and the second one that will allow him to dive for another 4 hours. The entire dive will be carried out using the Rebreather.
