This was the goal of Sir Richard Branson and Chris Welsh, constructors of a modern, one-man submarine. Virgin Oceanic is a project created on the basis of Virgin Galactic, which aims to implement space tourism.

Known for setting new records and achieving success in every field, the billionaire and traveller declared during the presentation that with the help of the youngest child bearing the Virgin logo, they intend to reach the deepest places, each of the oceans (Pacific Ocean – Mariana Trench 10911m, Atlantic Ocean – Puerto Rican Trench 9219m, South Atlantic Ocean – South Sandwich Trench 8428m, Indian Ocean – Diamantina Trench 7102m and Arctic Ocean – Molloy Deep 5608m.

It is already known that the first exploration will be made by Chris Welsh, and his destination is the Mariana Trench. Richard Branson will then plunge into the waters of the Atlantic to reach the Puerto Rican Trench. The people who will pilot Virgin’s new baby are not yet known. It is worth remembering that the only successful attempt to reach the Mariana Trench took place in 1960. It was then that Don Walsh and Jaques Piccard on board the bathyscaphe “Trieste” became the first people who saw the deepest place on Earth with their own eyes.

Over the course of the project, the Virgin team plans to set 30 Guinness World Records. Branson highlighted that more people have been to the moon than have reached a depth of 6km and in his own words: “The last great challenge for man is to explore the depths of our planet.”

Only 3% of the seabed has been explored and studied. The results of the planned expeditions and the information obtained will be invaluable to all mankind. The results of the research that will be carried out, including photographs, video footage and cartographic data, will feed the Google Earth database.
