Today ( 18-11-2010r ) there was a real treat for a handful of chosen ones, as two bottles of this noble liquor were ceremoniously uncorked and drunk in Mariehamn, Finland. The tasting had a magnificent setting, and among the invited guests was Christian Ekstroem – a diver who participated in the extraction of the load of 168 bottles.

By his own admission, he was expecting salt water inside, but the contents pleasantly surprised him. As for the champagne itself, according to those lucky enough to taste it, it is characterised by a tart and extremely intense aroma.

For us – mere mortals of the diving world, all that remains is imagination and hope that there is more than one wreck at the bottom of the Baltic Sea that hides a real treasure.
