US-based oceanographer Sylvia Earl has become the latest LEGO mini-figure! She has joined the ranks of several other famous women to whom the Danish LEGO manufacturer paid tribute for their achievements in various scientific fields. As a result, several new sets will be available in a completely diving style, with which to spark imagination and passion in the youngest members of the family!

The American oceanographer shocked the world in 1979 when she dived deeper than any woman before her. She has logged over 7000 hours underwater on over 100 expeditions! She has complemented her extensive career as a scientist by fulfilling herself as a book author, lecturer and researcher.

Her dedication to ocean conservation has inspired scores of young people in recent decades to embark on careers related to the underwater world, oceanographers, biologists, explorers, etc. What better role model could there be for our children to learn about the beauty of the underwater world through play from a young age?

Several kits will hit shop shelves, varying as usual in size and price. Starting with the smallest scooter kit, we are followed by Doc Ricetts’ MBARI vehicles, which are the next generation of ROVs, NOAA’s Okeanos Explorer and EV Nautilius.

Especially the latter should be known to those who closely follow our profile on Facebook. During the next expeditions of the Nautilius, we share there live images sent from the robot’s cameras to the surface, along with the commentary of scientists.

Apparently, the diving sets are very popular, so there’s a good chance that they’ll be available in Poland, too, and that LEGO development in that direction will continue. In times when we can find a lot of rubbish on the shop shelves, which doesn’t help in any way to develop passion, creativity and interests in children, it’s good to know that you can count on good old LEGO bricks.
