A new attraction is now waiting for divers planning to spend their holidays on the Turkish coast! It is the sunken fuselage of the passenger plane Airbus A300. The wreck is to become a magnet attracting diving tourists from around the world and one of the most interesting diving locations in the Kuşadasi area.

The sinking of the A300 began yesterday at 14.30. The Airbus was first prepared for the operation and stripped of all unnecessary elements that could pose a danger to divers and the environment. The whole process of depositing the wreck on the seabed took about 2h 30min and was a complete success. The fact that 40 people supervised the sinking of the machine is the best indication of how big the undertaking was. The A300 thus joined the aircraft previously sunk near Anatolia, Kaş and Kemer.

Now the plane, which measures 54 metres and has a wingspan of 44 metres, is waiting at a depth of 20-25 metres for the first people to come and dive in the waters of the Aegean Sea near the resort of Kuşadasi.

Placing such a colossus at the bottom of the Aegean Sea was no simple task. Transport to the destination required the use of five TIRs. Then, the plane, together with the pontoons that held it on the water, was placed in the right place by a specially adapted crane. The entire operation was watched by hundreds of spectators who were positioned along the shore and on many vessels moored at a safe distance.

According to the mayor of Kuşadasi, who was an ardent supporter of the sinking of the Airbus, the project is expected to bring 250,000 diving tourists a year to the city and surrounding area. This is expected to improve the situation of local businesses living off tourism and which have suffered heavy losses since security in Turkey was compromised in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
