According to local media Asiaone and Shinmin Daily News, the accident occurred at around 6pm when the three divers were working at the bottom of the ship. It was then that the ship’s propeller (about 10m in diameter) was activated. This was the immediate cause of the tragedy which resulted in the death of one of the divers.

Preliminary findings indicate that the victim was taking pictures of the other two divers, who were engaged in welding, at the time of the accident. When the notified emergency and uniformed services arrived at the scene, the body of the diver had already been brought to the surface. Moments later, paramedics pronounced the casualty dead.

It was ordered that all work in the vicinity of the accident site be halted until investigators had examined all the circumstances surrounding the accident.
