On Friday, 1 February, the latest and final film from the tragically deceased Rob Stewart will be released in cinemas in Canada and the US. News reports in recent days suggest that the film will also be available online, including through the iTunes platform.

Sharkwater Extinction, is the third picture made and directed by Stewart, following Sharkwater and Revolution. The Canadian filmmaker has pursued his passion for diving, filmmaking and environmental conservation by creating beautiful yet important video productions.

Sharkwater Extinction continues the work begun in the previous installment from 2006. Rob travels across four continents to investigate the corruption behind a billion dollar industry. The crew passes through some of the world’s most dangerous fishing ports, run by international criminal organisations that have captured the fishing industry.

100-150 million sharks are killed every year. Over the past 40 years, shark populations have declined by over 90%. Without a top predator at the top of the food chain, marine ecosystems are irreversibly re-evaluated and entire species face extinction.

Rob Stewart died in a diving accident on 31 December 2017.
