Search for wrecks in Papua

During the Allied warfare in the Pacific, one of the planes crashed in what is now Papua, the pilot survived the crash and, wandering for days, thirsty and wounded, encountered a local hunter who decided to help him. According to the old man, when the hunter brought the pilot to the village, the pilot shot several locals and ran away… The story seemed improbable, but in our situation we could not ignore any information.

As every Monday, a motorboat with supplies and correspondence arrived on the island. I received a parcel from the USA, which surprised me a lot, because I did not expect a parcel from that part of the world. The content turned out to be a video cassette. After turning on the player on the screen appeared an elderly man, at a majestic desk on which was placed a model of P-38 aircraft. This was the former pilot of our find. As it turned out from the airman’s account, during tactical operations, his plane was shot down. After a safe landing, wandering for a few hours around an unknown island, he met a local hunter who took him to the aforementioned settlement. The presence of the stranger in the village caused a lot of excitement among the villagers. They were panic-stricken at the consequences the Japanese might draw for helping the enemy.
