In the past we have already described the author’s Scuba Fit specialisationwhich was developed by a diving and fitness instructor – Gretchen M. Aston. The specialisation described today is admittedly completely different, but it shows that there are no limits for creative people.

Zombies have bitten into pop culture as if they were one of their victims. Feature films and animated movies can be counted in hundreds, comic books on the subject and dressing up as zombies on various occasions are no longer surprising and subsequent seasons of the Walking Dead series are breaking popularity records. No wonder that this epidemic has finally reached our diving circles.

PADI instructor Woody Tinsley from Vernon, Connecticut in the USA decided that it was high time to prepare the diving fraternity to meet the living dead. To this end, the PADI Zombie Apocalypse Diver specialization was created!

The course includes two dives and its completion is crowned with a certificate (as if in a post apocalyptic world someone would check our credentials) and a diploma, all participants also receive a 28-page manual.

During dive n°1, the course participants are paired up to carry out an extraction scenario. The objective is the pollution that has been located in the area (and is probably the cause of the transformation into zombies).

Dive number two is a combination of diving skills, race and obstacle avoidance. First, we have to escape from a group of zombies, heading towards the water, where, of course, more zombies will be waiting for us… Under the water, we have to demonstrate the ability to evade underwater zombies, contact with which will end in infection.

During the course you will gain knowledge on:

– zombie biology
– the history of zombies
– types of zombies present
– survival skills
– buoyancy
– search and extraction
– rescue skills
– first aid

At the end of the course, those who manage to survive can have a souvenir photo taken in full zombie costume.
