PADI and GoPro organise Underwater Selfie Day

Two powerhouses in their respective fields PADI and GoPro decided to join forces to motivate people to dive in these challenging times. This is how the idea for Underwater Selfie Day was born! The date for this new secular tradition has been set as 7 November 2020.

However, there is a bigger idea behind the whole action. By flooding social media with amazing underwater photos and films from around the world, the organisers want to show everyone how important man’s relationship with water is, and to draw attention to the problem of protecting the seas, oceans and creatures that inhabit them. We are delighted to partner with GoPro to inform, excite and give people around the world the opportunity to seek adventure and contribute to saving the oceans during Underwater Selfie Day, but also throughout the year, ” said PADI representative Kristain Valette-Wirth

It wasn’t difficult to persuade GoPro, a brand that strives to design its products and their packaging in a conscious manner. The latest HERO9 Black camper is the first to be sold in plastic-free packaging.

At GoPro, we often say that the company has taken a giant step forward since our founder Nicholas Woodman, decided to turn the camera around and capture himself with it. The wide-angle perspective characteristic of GoPro is perfect for capturing not only your expression, but also any stimuli you are immersed in. So the launch of the international #UnderwaterSelfieDay, which also celebrates conservation, is something we are delighted about,” commented Rick Loughery representing GoPro

To take part in Underwater Selfie Day and have a chance to win a GoPro Hero9 Black camera, just dive in and take the best selfie you can. If for some reason you are unable to dive in on November 7, nothing lost! Just pick your best underwater selfie and post it that day with the hashtag #underwaterselfieday!

Three finalists will be selected by a jury. The grand prize for first place is $2,000. In turn, all three finalists will receive new GoPro HERO9 Black cameras!

Rules of the competition and more information can be found on the official website Underwater Selfie Day.
