At the moment, the film is only available in the Russian language version, but on the official social media channels, the creators have already announced that an international version with English subtitles will soon appear.
“One Breath” is not a documentary recounting the life and enormous successes that Molchanova celebrated on many fronts. Although such a production would probably be the safest and would be a guarantee of success. However, the filmmakers decided that they wanted to create a feature drama about Natalia Molchanova’s great love – freediving and its impact on human life.
“After her divorce, 40-year-old Marina Gordeeva is convinced that she will never find love again. Little does she know that one day she will discover the love of her life in free diving, one of the most extreme sports in the world. While diving as deep as possible on one breath, Marina shows off her incredible talents, but her weaknesses get in the way of winning the competition. Marina can’t leave her life’s baggage behind. As she plunges into the depths of the ocean, her subconscious fears return as terrifying visions. In a sport where everything depends on mind control, it only takes one wrong thought to lose everything. In the vast and mysterious sea kingdom, Marina not only regains a sense of peace and well-being, but also redefines her life” – Alena Alova
Natalia Molchanova was a world champion in freediving and a 42-time world record holder. To this day she remains the most successful athlete in the world. During her entire career, she won 22 gold medals in individual and 2 gold medals in team competitions at the World Championships. On 25 September 2009, she became the first woman to exceed 100m in depth, reaching 101m in the CWT fixed-ballast competition.
She also has many scientific articles on freediving and two publications in the form of training manuals, which shows how multifaceted she was in her treatment of her beloved discipline. She was the founder and served as president of the Russian Freediving Federation. She created many training programmes and coached freediving enthusiasts all over the world.
Privately, she was also a proud mother of two children – Oksana and Alexei (also the Freediving World Champion – ed.). Natalia loved children and always looked forward to the day when she would become a grandmother.
She was an inspiration to a multitude of freedivers, both men and women. She always remained calm and relaxed during competitions. She used to say:
“Birth and death are important and freediving competitions, it’s just fun for adults”
