The first underwater museum in the USA, in the summer of 2019 will live to see a new installation! The object about the creation of which we informed in July this year, will soon expand with new elements of the exhibition. Applications are currently being collected from artists who would like to take part in the project. From the proposals received, 9 projects will be selected and funded for realisation.

The museum was created as a result of a partnership between the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, and the South Walton Artificial Reef Association. It is located 11 km from Grayton Beach State Park in northwest Florida and is situated at a depth of approximately 18 m.

It was created with the intention of attracting new tourists to the waters of Walton County and to settle the arid waters in the area. Currently 95% of the seabed is sand alone. By deploying statues and sculptures, the creators want to change that. In the blink of an eye, the installations are absorbed by the local fauna and flora, stimulating their growth and turning into artificial reefs.

Additionally, the Underwater Art Museum, provides scientists with the opportunity to observe and study the development of artificial ecosystems, as well as the impact of installations on the Gulf of Mexico ecosystem.
