On Friday, 28 December, around 1pm, firefighters from Poznan fished two unconscious divers out of the water. Unfortunately, despite the rescue operations undertaken, the accident victims could not be saved.
[blockquote style=”2″]”Witnesses who happened to be in the area saw one diver towing another in such an uncoordinated manner. They heard noises, but not “help!”, “rescue”, but such quite unnatural noises. They saw that they needed help,” reports Mariusz Kowalski, who commanded the firefighters on the spot.”[/blockquote]
After the pair of divers disappeared underwater, witnesses to the incident alerted the emergency services. Nine fire brigades arrived at the scene and 31 firefighters took part in the search and rescue operation.
The people who called the fire brigade pinpointed the exact spot where they last saw the divers on the surface, so it only took a few minutes to find them.
Unfortunately, the rescue operation, which lasted more than an hour and involved firefighters, paramedics and a doctor, was unsuccessful. At the moment it is not known what was the cause of the above-mentioned strange behaviour of the divers which led to the death. The circumstances of the entire incident are being investigated by the police and the prosecution.
