During the last edition of the biggest diving show in the world – DEMA, the latest Aqualung jacket – Rogue – had its premiere. It might seem that standards are set and apart from bigger and smaller details, everything has been said in the matter of BCD recreational construction. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Aqualung is going to stir things up a bit on the market by introducing its new, modular Rogue buoyancy system. At first glance you can see that we are dealing with a hybrid construction here, and the newest model of the American manufacturer’s jacket is rather sparsely designed and strongly resembles a wing.

Everything probably results from the fact that the Rogue was created with active and slightly more experienced divers in mind, who spend a lot of time travelling and for whom the small size and weight of the equipment is important.

There’s also no denying that the Rogue is a continuation of a line that began in 2016 with Auqualung’s first ever jacket-hybrid, the Outlaw. Following the success of its predecessor, the company decided to follow suit and introduce some new features, basing them on a well-received minimalist design.

Compared to its prototype, the Rogue provides more lift, has a wider rear section and room for additional ballast. All this certainly makes it a more suitable solution than Outlaw in colder waters.

A closer look at the BCD gives the impression that the jacket is solidly made using durable materials. What will probably be one of the main advantages of Aqualung’s youngest child is the possibility of a perfect fit, thanks to a combination of 27 sizes! This opens up a lot of possibilities for use in diving centres and schools while keeping costs to a minimum.

The harness and straps can be easily changed thanks to the ModLock fastening system, a new solution which is currently in the patent procedure. There are also several pockets which can be easily customised to accommodate additional weight or accessories.

The whole thing makes a very positive impression and looks like an extremely well thought-out design which is dedicated to a specific type of user. We hope that in some time it will come into our hands and after sailing it, we will be able to write even more about it.

Aqualung Rogue is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2018.

Weight: 2.2 kg
Price: ~ €500
